In 1960 God called us to Latin America with our two small children, David and Susan. We went to Peru, South America, for six years. We evangelized and founded churches in Huancayo and other central cities high in the Andes mountains. With other missionaries we founded a Bible Institute to train Pastors and leaders.
In 1967 Missionary Bob Smith with his Brother Missionary Jerry Smith and his family founded the First Baptist Church in the Capitol city of Ica, in southern Peru. This became the seed from which were born many churches in Huancayo and Ica. These churches continue to multiply.
Brother Bob and his workers spent countless hours giving out pictoral Gospel booklets.
In time they learned to visit the same homes weekly for 10 weeks giving the pictoral Gospels. Many were saved from this effort
They could see a big difference between different neighborhoods and different villages. Some were so much more moved by the Holy Spirit so that a new church could begin.
As soon as a small group of believers was ready, they organized them into a local church.
The church adopted a Constitution. They began a Sunday School to disciple the families.
The church understood temporary funds were being sent to them from sister churches in the United States. They voted in a short time to call a pastor Brother Bob had trained.
